Q&A: Everything You Wanted To Know About Business Internet Resilience

At Comms365, we get lots of questions about how businesses can add resilience to their Internet connection to provide business continuity in the event of an outage.  In this blog post, we take a look at the top five most frequently asked questions.

1. Resilience for Outages and Downtime
Resilience for Outages and Downtime

With access to email, VoIP (Voice over IP) and cloud computing all requiring Internet access, any downtime can be seriously disruptive to your business.  Our SD-ONE Failover Solution provides business continuity and Internet resilience by automatically switching to a backup connection should your primary Internet connection fail. This means you and your employees can continue working uninterrupted in the event of an outage.

2. Limit Disruption

The next question we typically get is how long it takes for the SD-ONE Failover Solution to switch over to the backup connection. The answer is almost instantly; you won’t notice any disruption at all. What’s even better is the moment your primary Internet connection comes back up, the SD-ONE Failover Solution will automatically revert back to the primary connection, so there’s no manual intervention required from you at all.

3. Bonded Internet
Bonded Internet

While a Failover Solution only utilises a second connection when the primary connection fails, a Bonded Internet solution simultaneously combines two or more Internet connections into one to create an Internet connection with improved performance.  This bonded connection delivers increased reliability, as well as faster download and upload speeds. Like a failover solution, should one of the bonded connections fail the remaining connections will take over. Our Fixed-Site Bonded Internet Solution can bond up to three connections, and our Portable Bonded Internet Solution can bond up to six. QoS (Quality of Service) is available as standard with both solutions.

4. Quality of What?
Quality of What

QoS (Quality of Service) is where certain types of internet traffic are prioritised over others. For example, a VoIP (Voice over IP) call requires a stable Internet connection for call quality, whereas a user loading a webpage would not be as noticeably impacted by any variances in the Internet connection quality. Therefore, QoS can give priority to those types of traffic which are delay-sensitive or mission critical. Quality of Service is available as standard on our SD-ONE Bonded Internet Solution and Continuum Bonded Internet Solution.

5. Bonding 4G Data

If you use 4G Internet connectivity for your business, you may be even more susceptible to outages and downtime. In this situation, we can bond Internet connections from more than one 4G carrier, including 3, EE, O2 and Vodafone. In the event that one of them experiences an outage, you’ll still have connectivity through another, meaning you can carry on as usual.
